The Gujarat Titans (GT) are poised to retain several key players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reports indicate that the franchise is likely to keep Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, B Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan. This strategy will leave them with one right-to-match (RTM) card option for the upcoming auction.
Gujarat Titans Retention Details
While the specific amounts for each retained player are not yet disclosed, GT will incur a minimum deduction of INR 51 crore from their auction purse of INR 120 crore. This deduction accounts for retaining three capped international players and two uncapped players. If the franchise opts to pay more than INR 51 crore for retaining five players, the higher amount will be deducted accordingly.
The deadline for all ten franchises to submit their retention lists is October 31. Teams can retain up to six players, including a maximum of five capped internationals and two uncapped players, according to IPL guidelines.
Shubman Gill in Focus for Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill has been a standout performer for GT since joining the franchise. After being picked before the inaugural auction in 2022 for INR 8 crore, he was appointed captain for IPL 2024 following Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians. His leadership has been pivotal as he led GT to success in previous seasons.
Rashid Khan, retained for INR 15 crore, remains one of the top spin bowlers in T20 cricket. His all-round abilities make him an invaluable asset for GT’s bowling lineup.
Reports: KL Rahul Likely to Part Ways with Lucknow Super Giants Ahead of IPL 2025
The retention of B Sai Sudharsan may come as a surprise to some fans. However, GT management sees him as a long-term player capable of making significant contributions at the top order. Sudharsan was bought for just INR 20 lakhs in 2022 and emerged as the sixth-highest run-scorer in IPL 2024, amassing 527 runs at an average of nearly 48 and a strike rate of 141.
Tewatia and Shahrukh Likely to be Retained
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, both uncapped allrounders, have also been retained due to their power-hitting capabilities in the lower-middle order. Tewatia was acquired for INR 9 crore in 2022 and has delivered impactful performances as a finisher. His experience adds depth to GT’s leadership group.
Shahrukh Khan, who was bought for INR 7.4 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, is recognized as one of the strongest hitters in domestic cricket. He also contributes as a part-time off-spinner, further enhancing his value to the team.
