The thirtieth match of IPL 2025 features the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) facing off against the Chennai Super Kings (CSM) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Winning an important toss, Chennai Super Kings’ captain MS Dhoni has elected to bowl first, citing dew as a possible factor.
However, the big news ahead of the match is the absence of Devon Conway from the CSK playing XI. Shaik Rasheed comes in his place.
MS Dhoni, leading the Chennai Super Kings, cited the prospect of dew coming in later as the reason behind his decision to bowl first. He mentioned that the wicket in Lucknow gets better to bat in the second innings. He said that they haven’t been consistent with the bat. He mentioned the importance of having the right mindset. “
We are blessed, we get good support wherever we go. ‘Thank you’, to all the fans. We want to bowl first, there’s chances of dew here. The wicket gets better in the second innings.
It’s important to set the right temperament. We haven’t been consistent with our batting. With the ball we have strong back strong. It’s important to have a positive mindset, play those big shots. It’s a matter of time.” Dhoni mentioned at the toss.
CSK are playing with key bowlers like Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Ravindra Jadeja, Jamie Overton and M Pathirana.
Rishabh Pant, captaining the LSG side, mentioned that he wanted to bowl first as well. He mentioned that it gets better to bat in the second inning in Lucknow. The pitch is lower in the first inning. He went on to say that they don’t want to give CSK an opening. “
We would have bowled first. In Lucknow it’s slower in the first innings, gets better gradually. The only thing we talked about CSK is that we don’t want to give them an opening, just need to give our 100%. We want to go out there and play good cricket,” Rahane said.
CSK have made two changes in the team. Most notably, opener Devon Conway misses out from the playing XI. Conway has not been able to provide the starts CSK are seeking.
The opener has not been in form and has failed to leave a mark. Moreover, his scoring rate has been really low, which has cost CSK matches.
Spinner R Ashwin has been benched as well. Ashwin has not been lethal with the ball and could pick up only 5 wickets in 6 matches.
