The Hobart Hurricanes have announced they will not be pursuing Jofra Archer for the upcoming 14th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). According to Salliann Beams, the team’s high performance general manager, while Archer is a talented player, their focus is on recruiting an all-rounder and a top-order batter to better balance the team.
Archer, who recently returned from a lengthy injury break and performed well in the T20 World Cup 2024 by taking 10 wickets in eight matches, previously played for the Hurricanes from 2017 to 2019. Despite his strong performance, Beams cited the current strength of their bowling attack, which includes Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and Chris Jordan, as the reason for not including Archer.
Beams stated, “What we’re looking for is that all-rounder and then someone that can fit in the top four. Not saying that he’s not a quality player, he is absolutely, but he just doesn’t fit the balance of our team.”

Beams also praised Chris Jordan for his on-field performance and off-field support, emphasizing the positive influence he has on the team. Jordan, who signed a two-year deal with the Hurricanes, has been recognized for his professionalism and dedication, which Beams believes has a contagious effect on the rest of the team.
The Hurricanes finished fifth in the points table last season and are looking to make strategic additions to improve their chances in the upcoming BBL season.
