Rohit Sharma failed miserably on his Ranji return. The story remained similar for the superstar batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant.
Rohit Sharma amid a number of rumours and controversies, finally appeared for his first Ranji Trophy match in nearly a decade. However he was not at his best in the Elite Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC ground in Mumbai. Playing for his first-class team Mumbai, Rohit Sharma failed to silent the critics. He was dismissed for just 3 off 19 balls.

Rohit got stuck at one end after getting off the mark in the first over. The free-flowing batter that was famous to destroy bowlers across the globe was missing. Umar Nazir and Auqib Nabi gave him really hard time and Rohit Sharma failed to make any difference. Nazir, the only surviving member of the Jammu and Kashmir team that beat Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 10 years ago, eventually beat Rohit in the battle.
Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai captain opted to bat first and Rohit along with another India superstar Yashasvi Jaiswal walked in. Unfortunately, even the youngster could not do much and could score just a mere 5 off 8 deliveries. Nabi, the highest wicket-taker for Jammu and Kashmir this season, took Mumbai’s first wicket in Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rohit Sharma followed in no time.
Meanwhile, in the Ranji match between Karnataka and Punjab, Shubman Gill also failed on his Ranji return after more than two and half years. Playing for Punjab, Shubman scored just 4 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 1 off 10 balls in the match between Delhi and Saurashtra in Rajkot.
Experts and fans have been insisting Indian cricketers to go back to the first-class to get their rhythm back. Especially with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, this has been a persistent point of discussion. The results on field whatsoever are not very pleasing for Indian cricket and the superstars.
