CSK’s fourth consecutive defeat in the IPL 2025 once again showed their lack of clarity and quality in the game. In the match against Punjab Kings, Chennai players looked clueless on the field. Their fielding efforts were not on point. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan took to the social media to comment on the same.

Pathan takes a dig

Punjab Kings scored 219/6 after Priyansh Arya smashed a 39-ball hundred. However the PBKS innings was not just about Punjab hitting, it was also about too many dropped catches and some surreal misfields by Chennai Super Kings. They dropped as many as eight catches and kept giving lifelines to the PBKS batters. Priyansh also got at least four lifelines.

Irfan Pathan took a dig at the same and wrote on X, “8 drop catches in the game today. Itne to legend league mein Nahi chorte bhai (we don’t drop this many even in legends leagues).”

When Priyansh was on just six, Khaleel Ahmed failed to grab an easy catch in the very first over. To everyone’s surprise, Ravindra Jadeja also misjudged a regulation catch and Mukesh Chowdhury missed another one with Arya in full smashing mood.

Fleming points out the errors

“The game was really lost in the field. I thought we were sloppy… just lacked accuracy under pressure,” the CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said. Fleming also added, “We were put under pressure by a fine innings, but we’ve got to be better than that… So that’s where the game got away from us.”

The chase saw CSK falling short of just 18 runs. Thankfully, apart from Devon Conway (69 off 49) and Shivam Dube (42 off 27), there were also some hitting from MS Dhoni (27 off 12) in display for the fans. “It’s been a frustrating season so far. The catching has been poor, but it was poor from both sides tonight,” Fleming said.
