Delhi Capitals’ veteran pacer Ishant Sharma faced the harsh impact of extreme weather conditions during the 35th match of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As temperatures soared, Ishant appeared visibly drained and eventually walked off the field due to what commentators described as a likely heat stroke. Despite the discomfort, the 36-year-old pacer managed to deliver three overs and claimed one wicket before leaving the field.
The oppressive heat proved to be a common struggle for players on both sides. Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel and pacer Prasidh Krishna also showed signs of cramping during the game. The heatwave sweeping across Ahmedabad forced players to take frequent hydration breaks and rely heavily on ice towels and medical staff. Ishant, who has played over 100 international matches, displayed determination by continuing to bowl before succumbing to the conditions. His absence for a significant portion of the second innings raised concerns, and he remained on the sidelines after completing his spell.
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field first, citing the extremely hot weather and pitch conditions. “It is very hot. The wicket looks good, but if there’s not much grass, it may crack later. We’re backing our combination and sticking with the same team. Rabada is expected to return in about 10 days,” Gill said after the toss.
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel revealed that he too would have preferred bowling first had he won the toss. “It’s so hot that I was confused. The bowlers can get tired easily. We’re focusing on executing our plans, giving players clear roles, and staying positive in the dressing room,” Axar said.
The match highlighted not just tactical battles, but also the physical resilience required to perform under extreme conditions. Ishant Sharma’s effort, despite the heat, stood as a testament to his commitment and experience in the game.
