The brilliant run of KL Rahul continues. The 33-year-old completed 5000 runs in the IPL. He has reached the milestone in the fewest innings ever, breaking the record of David Warner. KL scored a brilliant half-century against the Lucknow Super Giants to take the Delhi Capitals to their sixth win in the season.
Playing against his former team, KL fully utilised the opportunity to prove himself. The match took place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, a ground KL has come to understand very well. He had missed the first match played between the two teams earlier this season, DC won that game as well.
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored a middling total of 159/6 in 20 overs. They started well, thanks to powerful knocks from their openers. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram set up a solid foundation as they stitched a partnership of 87 runs in 10 overs.
However, with the fall of Markram, the innings never recovered.
Thanks to a late flourish from Ayush Badoni, LSG ended up with a score of 159. However, with dew falling and the pitch easing out, it was going to be a tough task to defend the total.
For DC, Karun Nair was dismissed by Markram after a few initial sparkling shots. After his dismissal, KL came to the crease and remained not out till the end.
Rahul hit 3 balls for fours in his innings. He also hit three magnificent sixes. He remained not out till the end, and scored 57*.
In his knock against the Lucknow Super Giants, KL completed one of the most impressive figures in IPL history. He scored a half-century to show his dominance over the format. In the first match between the two teams, DC went on to win that match, despite KL’s absence
KL became the fastest player to achieve the milestone. He completed 5000 runs in the last over of the match by hitting Prince Yadav for a single. He completed it in 130 innings, while Warner did it in 135 innings. Virat Kohli, the third on the list, completed his 5000 runs in 157 deliveries. AB de Villiers and Shikhar Dhawan had achieved the milestone in 161 and 168 innings respectively.
