LSG’s Digvesh Rathi’s dream comes true, Rishabh Pant makes him meet his idol

IPL proves to be the platform where talents from various backgrounds come together. Many youngsters get to share the space with their idols and inspirations. The recent episode is of LSG’s Digvesh Rathi, who got to meet his idol, Sunil Narine.

Rishabh Pant arranges the meet-up

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant made sure that his teammate Digvesh Rathi got to meet his idol, Sunil Narine. Ahead of the game between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Kolkata Knight Riders, the two met in a heartwarming scene.

Digvesh meets Narine

Young Digvesh Rathi, hailing from Northeast Delhi, looked up to Narine while growing up. The leg spinner revealed that Narine is his inspiration, and he started bowling after seeing the West Indian. So, the moment the two met ahead of the clash between LSG and KKR, it was a magical experience for the youngster. Rathi debuted in the IPL this year and has already made huge strides.

Digvesh Rathi’s impressive performance

In the 4 games he has played so far in the tournament, Rathi has already left a mark. Playing for the Lucknow Super Giants, he has picked up 6 wickets so far. His most important performance came against Mumbai Indians, for which he also received the Player of the Match award. The spinner was instrumental in LSG’s 12-run win over the five-time champions. He bowled a beautiful spell of 2/21 against the Mumbai Indians.

Journey from grassroots

Rathi’s journey to the IPL success has not been easy or straightforward. It has been filled with obstacles and long waits. He was overlooked in Delhi’s domestic setup for a long time. Thereafter, former India cricketer Vijay Dahiya spotted the talent and believed there was something special in Rathi. Rathi was picked but benched in Delhi’s U-23 squad in 2018-19. However, he disappeared before his comeback in 2022-23. Since then, he has had solid performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Now, he is a key player for LSG.
