After the Indian batting debacle in Indore, Usman Khawaja from Australia came up with a strong batting display on Day 1 of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, after his innings he clearly said that the pitch would not be going to be easier for batting in the coming days.

India opted to bat first on Day 1 of the Indore Test match but were bowled out for 109 in just 33.2 overs. Matthew Kuhnemann picked up five wickets conceding 16 runs in his nine overs while Nathan Lyon took three wickets. Virat Kohli ended as India’s highest scorer with 22 runs. During Australia’s batting Khwaja scored 60 runs off 147 runs but later he confirmed that it felt tough whole time. He said, “I played to my plans, tried to score when there was an opportunity and kept out the good balls. Not rocket science, honestly.” He further explained, “Not an easy wicket out there. Spin-friendly wicket, it felt tough the whole time and I don’t expect it to get better.”
The Holkar Cricket Stadium wicket in Indore has been the trending topic the whole day. As many as 14 wickets went down on the first day of the Test at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. With six wickets in hand Australia are currently leading by 47 runs against India in the first innings. While Indians failed terribly, Australia could finish well with the bat because of Khawaja.
Jadeja takes four
Speaking of the same the batter said, “I used the sweep intermittently when I needed to today, did the similar thing last week. It’s just another arsenal in your repertoire. It’s hard enough out there, bowler keeps you guessing, I was trying to keep them guessing too. It was a bit of a cat and mouse.”
For India, the spinners did well with the ball. However, it was the Ravindra Jadeja spell that too all four wickets of Australia on Day 1. They ended with 156/4 in 54 overs.
