Pakistan to play at neutral venues in the 2023 World Cup

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) are firm on its decision on not to play in Pakistan during the Asia Cup. The tournament was to be held in Pakistan this year but BCCI are unwilling to play in the neighboring country.

It should be recalled that the 2023 Asia Cup has been plagued by controversy ever since ACC president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan in October of last year. Jay Shah has since been pushing to move the tournament to a neutral location.

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) refused to tour Pakistan for the aforementioned competition for political reasons, putting the next Asia Cup and Pakistan’s participation in the Men’s ODI World Cup in peril.

The PCB was insistent that if the BCCI would not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Pakistan might not travel to India for the World Cup in October-November. The BCCI maintained its position on this matter.

In the meantime, on the sidelines of the just finished T20I series between Pakistan and Afghanistan here, former PCB CEO Wasim revealed his prediction of how this deadlock will unfold and asserted that Pakistan might possibly play their world cup matches on a neutral venue.

Wasim said

“I don’t know if it would take place here on in a different country but a neutral venue is highly likely,” responded Wasim in a question regarding the likely neutral venue for India’s Asia Cup fixtures.

“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim concluded.

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin does not believe that Pakistan would not attend the 50-over World Cup in India later this year. It would be interesting to see how things unfold later this year.

Pakistan might play 2023 World Cup in Bangladesh

There are talks in on that could result in Pakistan playing its ODI World Cup matches in Bangladesh in 2023. The hybrid Asia Cup format has been proposed at the ICC level as a possible solution, despite the fact that India is the tournament’s host due to the political tensions between the two nations. The Asia Cup is being hosted by Pakistan, although India will play its games elsewhere.
