PM Modi Initiates Construction of International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment as he laid the foundation stone for the International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency. This significant step toward modern sports infrastructure was celebrated with prominent figures from cricket and politics in attendance.

Distinguished Guests and Cricket Legends Present

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who joined Prime Minister Modi in commemorating this momentous event. Among the esteemed guests were former Indian cricketing legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Kapil Dev, alongside BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Rajeev Shukla, and BCCI Vice-President Roger Binny. 

On this occasion, Jay Shah and Roger Binny presented a special signed cricket bat to Prime Minister Modi, symbolising the unity of sports and development. The International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi is a significant step toward realising Prime Minister Modi’s vision of creating modern, world-class sports facilities in India. This state-of-the-art stadium is designed to offer much more than cricketing excellence.

Thematic Architecture Inspired by Lord Shiva

The stadium’s architectural theme draws inspiration from Lord Shiva, featuring distinctive design elements that pay homage to the revered deity. These include crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights, ghat steps-based seating, and Bilvipatra-shaped metallic sheets on the facade, creating a unique and culturally rich atmosphere.

To facilitate this ambitious project, the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated a substantial budget of ₹121 crore for the acquisition of the necessary land. Additionally, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed its commitment to invest ₹330 crore in the construction of the stadium. This partnership between the state and cricket’s governing body reflects a shared commitment to advancing sports infrastructure in India.

A Grand Seating Capacity

The international cricket stadium in Varanasi is poised to become a landmark with a seating capacity of up to 30,000 spectators. It will not only be a hub for cricket enthusiasts but also serve as a venue for various sporting events and cultural gatherings.
