Former Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul recently shared a heartwarming anecdote about Shah Rukh Khan’s behavior in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dressing room during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Gul recalled how Shah Rukh Khan, despite being a superstar, displayed remarkable humility and down-to-earth behavior towards the players.
Gul mentioned that when he joined KKR, he was treated like a local player by the fans, which made him feel welcomed. Shah Rukh Khan would often visit the dressing room and interact with everyone in a friendly manner.
Gul described an instance where Shah Rukh Khan would sit on the floor, resting his head on a kit bag, engaging in conversations with the players. This approachability and easy-going nature of Shah Rukh Khan made him a beloved figure among the team members.
Umar Gul talks about Shah Rukh Khan
Speaking on Zalmi TV, Umar Gul said “Shah Rukh Khan used to sit on the floor but never let any player leave their place or chair”.
Gul also revealed that he had initially signed a three-year deal with KKR but was unable to continue due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to Pakistani players being banned from participating in the IPL. Despite this setback, Gul fondly remembered Shah Rukh Khan’s humility and genuine interest in the players.
Shah Rukh Khan’s actions exemplified his commitment to the team, transcending his status as just an owner. His presence in the dressing room left a lasting impact, highlighting the spirit of unity and camaraderie that defines a successful team.
