Indian cricket legend Shikhar Dhawan has been announced as the first signing for Team India Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The tournament, set to begin on July 18, promises to bring back cricket’s golden era with iconic players.
Co-owner of Team India Champions Sumant Bahl shared his excitement about the signing. “Shikhar Dhawan adds flair and strength to our team as we focus on defending our title. We’re retaining some greats from last year and adding new players to make our team even stronger,” he said.
The WCL, now entering its second edition, is known for reviving the excitement of cricket’s past glory. The league’s CEO, Harshit Tomar, emphasized its mission.
“With Shikhar Dhawan joining, we’re confident this season will mean more to fans. Our goal is to bring global legends together and recreate unforgettable cricketing moments,” Tomar said.
The inaugural WCL season saw immense success, drawing fans worldwide. The highlight was the India vs Pakistan Legends clash at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The tournament celebrated the spirit of cricket while delivering thrilling T20 action.
Chief Patron of WCL Nishant Pitti described the upcoming season as a step forward. “This campaign is a positive move for cricket. Our partnership with WCL ensures a great environment for players and fans alike,” he said.
Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 24th August 2024. Before that, the Southpaw represented India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. Dhawan scored 2,315 runs in Tests at an average of 40.61.
In ODIs, Dhawan scored 6,793 runs at an average of 44.11. He also had a strike rate of 91.35. His T20 numbers are equally impressive. Dhawan has 1,759 runs to his name in the format with a strike rate of 126.36.
