Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has revealed that the team is drawing inspiration from Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) dramatic turnaround in IPL 2024. With just two wins in eight matches, SRH sits at ninth place on the points table, a major dip from their runner-up finish last season. After their sixth loss—this time to Mumbai Indians—Vettori addressed the media, stressing the need for a collective improvement in batting, bowling, and fielding.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Vettori said, “IPL’s been going a long time and there’s been a lot of teams who’ve found themselves in this situation. You look back to RCB last year—after a difficult start, they turned things around. Mumbai Indians have done it too. So if we can take some inspiration from teams like them, we have a chance. But it’s going to take one good performance to kickstart that momentum.”
RCB had famously bounced back in IPL 2024 by winning six consecutive games after managing just one win in their first eight. SRH now hopes to replicate that run with six matches still remaining in their league campaign.
SRH, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, has struggled to find consistency. The team’s performances have been underwhelming, with the bowlers failing to deliver in key moments and the batting lineup collapsing under pressure. Despite showing promise in a few games, they’ve been unable to string together a match-winning effort across all departments.
“Our two wins came when we clicked as a team. Outside of those, we’ve failed to put together a complete game,” Vettori admitted. “We need to improve dramatically in all three facets—batting, bowling, and fielding—to keep our playoff hopes alive.”
SRH will now travel to Chennai for their next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With the playoffs race heating up, every game is a must-win for the 2016 champions. CSK, too, has had a bumpy ride in IPL 2025, and both teams will look to reignite their campaigns in the crucial clash.
As SRH looks to mirror RCB’s 2024 turnaround, the pressure is on Vettori’s men to deliver when it matters the most. A win against CSK could be the spark they need to script another incredible comeback story in the IPL.
