Multan Sultans pacer Ubaid Shah created a viral moment during their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 fixture against Lahore Qalandars on Tuesday, when he accidentally slapped teammate Usman Khan during an overly animated celebration. The incident, caught on camera, has since taken the internet by storm, sparking both laughter and concern among fans.
The bizarre moment occurred after Ubaid dismissed a dangerous-looking Sam Billings at the end of the 15th over. With Billings smashing 43 off just 22 balls, his wicket was a turning point. As Ubaid turned to celebrate, he swung his arm and unintentionally struck wicketkeeper Usman Khan on the head with his open palm.
Unfortunately, Usman wasn’t wearing a helmet, absorbing the full brunt of the hit. A medical team was called in immediately to assess the keeper. Fortunately, he was deemed fit to continue and signaled a thumbs up to the dugout and crowd, assuring everyone he was fine.
The slap may have stolen headlines, but Multan Sultans delivered a strong all-round performance to seal their first win of the season after three consecutive losses. Batting first, they posted a mammoth total of 228/5, thanks to Yasir Khan’s explosive 87 off 44 balls, featuring six fours and six sixes.
Yasir stitched an 89-run partnership with captain Mohammad Rizwan in just seven overs. Rizwan scored 32 off 17 balls before falling to Asif Afridi. Usman Khan also made a notable contribution with 39 off 24 balls, while Iftikhar Ahmed added fireworks at the end with 40 off just 18 deliveries.
In response, Lahore Qalandars crumbled under scoreboard pressure. Ubaid, determined to make an impact beyond the slap, bagged three crucial wickets. Although Sikandar Raza tried to mount a late comeback with an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls, it wasn’t enough. Lahore finished short by 33 runs, handing Multan their much-needed breakthrough win in PSL 10.
Despite the comedic nature of the accidental slap, the incident underlined the passion and energy of the young Multan Sultans team. And with their campaign finally gaining momentum, Ubaid Shah will hope that future celebrations don’t involve friendly fire.
