Mohammed Shami is ready to return to represent Indian team again after his recovery from injury. He missed India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign after playing the ODI World Cup 2023 with an injury. He spoke about the recovery period after the knee surgery and the tough times during the rehabilitation.
Mohammed Shami had to miss the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last year. He had to get the knee surgery done to be match-fit enough to return to the nets. Following the surgery, he returned to action for Bengal in a Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in November. He was also part of Bengal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. While the BCCI and India team management did not want to rush with his recover, Shami proved his fitness in the domestic cricket.
Expectedly the selectors showed confidence on him for next month’s Champions Trophy. Ahead of the same, India will take on England at home. Eden will host the first match of the T20 series between India and England today on January 22.
Shami meanwhile talked about his recovery journey and tough times during the rehabilitation post injury. In a video shared by the BCCI, Shami said, “When you are scoring runs and taking wickets, everyone is with you. But the real test is to realise who is with you during tough times. I waited for an entire year and I worked very hard. There was a sense of fear even while running.”
He further opined, “It is difficult for any player to get injured after being in full flow, go to the NCA for rehabilitation and then make a comeback. When you go through injuries, I feel you grow stronger as an athlete because you have to repeat a lot of things while being mentally strong. Whatever is done, it is done. I have crossed that phase. If you work hard, you will get the result. That’s what I believe.”
