Samson Punishes Gus Atkinson for 22 in an Over

Chasing a modest target of 133, Samson wasted no time asserting his dominance. The turning point came in the third over when he smashed 22 runs off Gus Atkinson. The over began with two consecutive boundaries. Samson drove the first ball to deep square leg and followed it up with a textbook cover drive.

After a dot ball, Samson turned up the heat. He launched the fourth delivery over deep backward point for a flat six. The carnage continued with back-to-back boundaries, one flicked to mid-on and the other glanced to fine leg.

In five brutal strokes, Samson had dismantled Atkinson’s over:

However, soon after that, Samson seemed to struggle at the crease. Before getting out, he scored 26 off 20 deliveries.

England Crumbles Against India’s Bowlers

Earlier in the match, England struggled to build momentum after losing early wickets. Arshdeep Singh provided the initial breakthrough, dismissing Ben Duckett and Phil Salt in quick succession. Arshdeep has now become India’s leading wicket taker in T20 Internationals. He went past Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 96 wickets to his name.

Varun Chakravarthy then spun a web around England’s middle order. He claimed three crucial wickets, including the dangerous Jos Buttler, who top-scored with a valiant 68 off 44 balls. Chakravarthy finished with figures of 3/23, while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya chipped in with two wickets each. England was bowled out for 132 in 20 overs. 8 of the English batters failed to make it into double digits.

By the time of writing, India was 92/2 in 8.4 overs. Abhishek Sharma had just completed his fifty in 20 balls. India now needs 41 runs in 68 balls to win.
