In what may go down as one of the most iconic knocks in IPL history, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the cricketing world with a sensational century against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja led the praise, calling the innings a generational moment for Indian cricket.
Suryavanshi’s 101 off just 38 balls was a mix of fearless strokeplay, clean hitting, and astonishing maturity. He reached his half-century in 17 balls and brought up his century in just 35 deliveries, slamming 7 fours and 11 sixes along the way. Jadeja, reflecting on the innings, said, “We all imagined moments like this in our childhood, but this kid lived it — on the grandest stage, against seasoned bowlers.”
What impressed Jadeja the most wasn’t just Suryavanshi’s technique, but his mindset. “His ability to stay calm after highs, to keep flowing without fear — that’s what sets him apart. Physical skills can be taught, but this kind of mental belief at 14 is rare.”
Jadeja drew comparisons with the impact MS Dhoni had on youth from small-town India. “Just like Dhoni gave kids the belief they could make it, Vaibhav’s knock could inspire every 14 or 15-year-old in the country to dream bigger. Cricket in India won’t be the same again.”
The young batter had already given glimpses of his intent in his debut match, hitting a six off his first IPL ball bowled by Shardul Thakur. Despite getting out for 30, he handled the moment with maturity, initially emotional but smiling minutes later in the dugout.
Beyond the runs, Suryavanshi showed resilience, clarity, and fearlessness — qualities that go far beyond his age. If this performance is any indication, Indian cricket may just have found its next phenomenon.
