Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni brought a wide smile to Yuzvendra Chahal’s face after presenting the veteran leg-spinner with his bat following their IPL 2025 clash. However, what began as a heartwarming gesture quickly turned into a hilarious locker room moment, thanks to Glenn Maxwell’s trademark banter.

Chahal Receives Priceless Gift from Dhoni

Chahal, who made his international debut under Dhoni’s leadership, shared a nostalgic moment with the former India captain after the match. The CSK legend gifted Chahal his bat, a gesture that visibly thrilled the spinner. Clutching the bat with pride, Chahal walked into the Punjab Kings (PBKS) dressing room, where his teammates were quick to take notice.

Maxwell Mocks Chahal’s Impact Player Role

Glenn Maxwell, never one to miss an opportunity for humor, immediately teased Chahal for rarely batting this season. “You get subbed out in every game,” Maxwell said, drawing laughter from those present. Chahal has yet to face a single ball in IPL 2025, with PBKS consistently using him as a bowling Impact Player.

Young opener Priyansh Arya joined the fun, joking, “Some kid in Haryana is going to take this bat for sure,” referencing Chahal’s home state and hinting that he might not hold on to the gift for long.

Veteran Spinner Mentors Young Batters

Despite the jokes, Chahal’s influence in the PBKS camp extends beyond the field. The IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker has played a crucial mentoring role for young batters like Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. Both credited him for offering pitch insights and tactical advice ahead of their game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

“Yuzi bhaiya explained how the pitch would behave, and that helped me adjust early on,” Priyansh revealed. Prabhsimran added, “He told me to take my time early because the track would assist spinners. That advice made a big difference.”

PBKS Eye Turnaround with Chahal’s Resurgence

Chahal has taken nine wickets in as many matches this season and appears to be regaining top form just as PBKS need it most. With an upcoming clash against CSK at Chepauk — a venue known to aid spinners — PBKS will hope their seasoned leggie can deliver another match-winning spell.
