Kolkata Knight Riders prepare to face Delhi Capitals in Match 48 of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. KKR’s middle-order batter Venkatesh Iyer opened up about his mental approach towards the tournament. He emphasized mindfulness and team-first attitude.
In a candid interaction on Star Sports’ Gen Bold show, Iyer revealed that his experience in the IPL has taught him the importance of living in the moment. “Having played IPL over the years, I’ve understood that taking one game at a time—and more importantly, one moment at a time—is key,” he said.
He admitted that it’s a habit he developed through trial and error. “This might sound basic, but it’s extremely tough to do. Over the years, I’ve learned not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. Staying in the present helps me stay grounded and focused.”
The Indore-born all-rounder made it clear that while personal milestones like runs and wickets matter, they are secondary to the team’s goals. “IPL is all about creating an impact. Even if it’s small, if it helps the team win, that’s what counts,” he noted.
“I want to keep the team’s success above my own. The situation in which I contribute—whether it’s a crucial wicket or a match-turning knock—matters more to me than stats,” Iyer added.
KKR, the defending champions, are looking to continue their strong campaign this season. With players like Iyer showing clarity in both thought and role, the team heads into the contest with a solid mindset. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, will be eager to challenge the Knights at their home ground in what promises to be a thrilling clash.
Iyer’s outlook reflects a growing maturity in KKR’s camp—a sign that their eyes are not just on playoffs, but on consistency and composure throughout the tournament.
