BCCI to Rectify Oversight in Sakariya Suspect Action Error: Addressing the Cricketing Oversight

In an unintentional misstep, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finds itself course-correcting after erroneously listing Chetan Sakariya among bowlers reported for a suspect action. The left-arm pacer, a rising talent from Saurashtra, was mistakenly placed at the top of a list of bowlers labeled as ‘reported but not banned’ in a Cricbuzz story on December 15.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the error originated from a miscommunication, and Chetan Sakariya has never been under scrutiny for a suspect action. The confusion arose due to a player with a similar name, Chetan, from the south zone, who was intended to be on the suspect list. The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) promptly reached out to the BCCI to rectify the situation.

Jaydev Shah, the president of SCA, clarified, “It was a sort of miscommunication and error, and Chetan has never been called, and he is not on that list. I understand that the name of a Karnataka bowler should have been there, and the IPL is addressing the issue. The franchises are also being duly informed.”

Chetan Sakariya, recently released by Delhi Capitals, is positioned 27th in the auction roster with a base price of Rs 50 lakh. However, the Karnataka bowler with a similar name is not part of the final auction list.

The list of bowlers with suspect actions includes other domestic stalwarts such as Tanush Kotian, Rohan Kunnummal, Chirag Gandhi, Salman Nizar, Saurabh Dubey, and Arpit Guleria. Additionally, Manish Pandey and KL Shrijith from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have been banned from bowling.

As the BCCI works to address this oversight, the cricketing community awaits a swift resolution, emphasizing the importance of accurate and transparent reporting in the lead-up to the IPL 2024 auction.
