Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to make a comeback to professional cricket for the first time since January when he represented Perth Scorchers in the BBL. Known among his fans as Bison, Marsh is supposed to join the Lucknow Super Giants camp on March 18, days before the 18th season of the Indian Premier League starts.
However, the Aussie will be playing as a specialist batter as he is yet to recover fully from his back injury. Mitchell Marsh, 33, has been prone to injuries throughout his career. He missed out on the ICC Champions Trophy campaign because of lower back pain and dysfunction. The injury had to do with a disc issue that he developed in September 2024 on a tour to England.
Marsh will be joining his new team after he was bought by the Lucknow franchise for INR 3.4 Cr in November 2024. The Australian T20 captain has been playing in the IPL since his debut in 2010 for Deccan Chargers. Since then, he has played for teams like Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals. Unfortunately, Marsh has been able to feature in only 42 IPL matches because of his injury concerns.
The all-rounder will be joining his compatriot and former Australian coach Justin Langer in the LSG squad, who is going to coach LSG for the second season. Marsh played for Delhi Capitals in the last three seasons. Last year, he had to return after just 4 games after sustaining a hamstring injury. In his 42 appearances, the Australian has scored 665 runs at an average of 19.56, while taking 37 wickets at an average of 21.49.
LSG’s campaign will begin on March 24 at Vishakhapatnam against Delhi Capitals, Marsh’s previous team. The Rishabh Pant-led side will be looking to win the trophy for the first time in their fourth season. It remains to be seen how Mitchell Marsh, the batter, will help them in their campaign.
