The USA Cricket team has finalised its 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies. The announcement features some intriguing selections, including the return of experienced all-rounder Corey Anderson.

Anderson, who represented New Zealand in the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups, brings a wealth of international experience to the young American squad.  This tactical move by the selectors aims to bolster USA’s batting and bowling attack in a high-pressure global tournament.

Fresh Faces and Experience Collide: Ali Khan and Jahangir Earn Call-Ups

Ali Khan, despite a limited recent T20I record, has been included in the squad.  His experience playing in various T20 leagues worldwide, including the CPL, PSL, and ILT20, likely influenced this decision.  The selectors are banking on his knowledge of the format and his ability to perform under the spotlight.

Shayan Jahangir, who began his representative cricket career with Pakistan, his country of birth, has also been selected.  While he hasn’t played for USA since July 2023, his 12 ODIs for the team showcase his talent and potential contribution.

The final squad reflects some changes compared to the team that dominated Canada in the recent 4-0 T20I series win.  Gajanand Singh and Usman Rafiq, who struggled with the bat and ball respectively against Canada, have been omitted.

Strong Performances Rewarded: Monank Patel Leads Batting Charge

Monank Patel, the USA’s leading run scorer against Canada with 120 runs at a strike rate close to 170, retains his place in the squad.  He is joined by other consistent performers from the Canada series, including Andries Gous, Steven Taylor, and Nitish Kumar, who impressed with his quickfire 38-ball 64.  Harmeet Singh, who chipped in with handy runs alongside Anderson, also keeps his spot.

The bowling department remains largely unchanged, with the impressive Harmeet Singh and Shadley Van Schalkwyk, who bagged six wickets each against Canada, spearheading the attack.  Noshthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar, who also contributed with wickets, are likely to play crucial supporting roles.

With the squad finalised, all eyes are now on the USA’s opening match of the tournament.  They will have the honour of playing the very first game of the T20 World Cup against familiar foes Canada, set for June 1st in Dallas.
