“Easy to criticise, supporting them is very difficult”, Yuvraj Singh Stands by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Amid Criticism

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has come out in support of underfire head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and senior batter Virat Kohli, urging fans and critics to acknowledge their past achievements before rushing to judge recent failures.

As India grapples with a series of setbacks—including losses to New Zealand and their inability to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy—there has been mounting criticism directed at the team’s leadership. However, Yuvraj chose to offer a different perspective, emphasising the importance of backing these players during tough times.

Focus on Achievements, Not Just Failures

Yuvraj pointed out that India’s recent struggles should not overshadow their historic successes. The former World Cup-winning all-rounder highlighted the significance of back-to-back Test series victories in Australia, achievements no other Indian team has managed.

“I look at what India has achieved in the last 5-6 years. They have achieved two back-to-back victories in Australia. I don’t remember any team doing that,” Yuvraj said in an interview clip posted by PTI.

He further expressed concern over the quick criticism faced by Rohit and Kohli.

“People are criticizing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli a lot, but people forget what they have achieved in the past. They are two of the greatest cricketers of this time. It’s ok they lost, they are more hurt than us. I am sure India will bounce back,” Yuvraj added.

Gambhir, Agarkar, and the Future of Indian Cricket

Yuvraj also mentioned that the future direction of Indian cricket lies in the hands of head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, senior batter Virat Kohli, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

“Gautam Gambhir as coach, Ajit Agarkar as selector, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli—they are the best minds in cricket right now. And they have to decide what the future of Indian cricket is. I am sure this will be discussed with BCCI, with Jay Shah and taken into consideration that what is the best way for India to move forward,” Yuvraj stated.

Supporting Friends and Brothers

When asked about possible changes in the Indian dressing room, Yuvraj reiterated his support for Rohit and Kohli. He made it clear that he views them as family and believes in standing by them during challenging times.

“First of all, I am not in that position. I was a student of the game and still am a student of the game. Gambhir, Rohit, and Virat have played more cricket than me. I can only give my opinion. When players are not performing, it is very easy to criticize them, but supporting them is very difficult,” Yuvraj said.

The southpaw emphasized the media’s role in criticism but asserted that his job is to support his friends.

“It is the media’s job to criticize them, and it is my job to support my friends and brothers. For me, they are my family. Simple,” Yuvraj concluded.
