Pakistan has qualified for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup with a game to spare in the qualifiers. They beat Thailand by 87 runs to secure their position and win their fourth game of the qualifier. While Bangladesh is hopeful to confirm the other spot, Scotland & West Indies will hope things go their way.
Batting first, Pakistan’s innings was meandering for the most part. At the 40-over mark, the score was 119/4. The scoring rate was under 3 runs per over. Pakistan seemed to be losing their way in the match. Thailand’s bowlers were disciplined throughout and did not give away much to the Pakistani batters.
However, Fatima Sana led her team to a solid total as she scored a brilliant 62 off 59 balls. She joined hands with Sidra Amin, who scored 80 off 105 balls. The duo added a run-a-ball 97-run partnership. Pakistan scored 86 runs in the last ten overs. This gave them a chance to defend their total of 205 runs.
In reply, Thailand’s batters would have hoped for a better day out. Their batting has kept on improving in the tournament. They scored their highest ODI score, posting 259 against Ireland a couple of days ago. They would have hoped to give Pakistan at least some trouble, if not win the match.
However, Thailand ended up with a paltry total of 118 runs in 35 overs. They were bowled out. Thailand has not won a game so far in the tournament. They next meet West Indies on Saturday.
It has not been an easy path for the West Indies. But they have done fairly well so far. They won the match against Bangladesh by 3 wickets. At one point, Bangladesh was 134 for 1 in the 28th over. However, they lost their way in the middle and ended up with 227 for 9.
In reply, the West Indies reached the target of 228, albeit losing 7 wickets. West Indies will hope to win against Thailand by a big margin and hope Bangladesh have a better run out in four games.
