India’s former captain MS Dhoni has a huge fan following not just in India but all over the cricketing universe. An example of that occurred during India’s net session before the 4th ODI between Sri Lanka and India that was played at the R Premadasa Stadium Colombo. A fan interrupted MS Dhoni’s net session and takes a selfie with him
Dhoni was batting in the nets and taking a knocking session and suddenly, a man, dressed in formals walked in towards the net after duping the security personnel. He first went to Rohit Sharma as he mistook him for Dhoni.
Rohit, who was waiting for his turn for practice, pointed towards the wicketkeeper batsman and that unknown man then walked towards Dhoni. The right-hander was shaping up to face a delivery but was suddenly stopped by that stranger. The team was surprised by the unusual scenes.
The stranger took out his phone and took a selfie with Dhoni and shook hands with him. The 36-year-old Indian cricketer then asked him to leave with a smile on his face. It was a fanboy moment for that person who would never forget those moments in his life.
The Indian support staff then rushed in and escorted that man outside the ground. The whole scenario was funny and the whole Indian team had a good laugh about it. Dhoni wasn’t disturbed by the incident and went on about his job of practicing. The stranger was later identified as a staff member of the R Premadasa Stadium and hence he had an easy access to the ground.
It was not the first incident when Dhoni quietly greeted his fan. Earlier this year, while he was batting for India A against England in a warm-up match, a fan from the crowd had jumped inside the ground and ran straight towards Dhoni. The Indian wicketkeeper gently offered to shake hands with him but he went on to touch the feet of MS. Such is the stature of MS Dhoni in the game of cricket.
