Here is why Lungi Ngidi Isn’t Playing Today’s IPL 2025 Match 8 Against CSK

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have decided to leave out South African pacer Lungi Ngidi from their playing XI for the high-profile IPL 2025 clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ngidi, who was expected to feature in RCB’s pace attack, has not been included in the final lineup, raising curiosity among fans.

Ngidi Benched Due to Tactical Selection

Lungi Ngidi, known for his ability to generate extra bounce and deliver in pressure situations, was expected to be a key part of RCB’s bowling unit. However, the team management opted for Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as their frontline pacers, leaving Ngidi on the bench.

RCB’s decision appears to be based on match conditions and team balance. The Chepauk surface traditionally favors spin and slower variations, making Bhuvneshwar’s ability to swing the new ball and Hazlewood’s accuracy more valuable in these conditions. Additionally, RCB preferred an extra all-rounder in Krunal Pandya to strengthen their middle order and provide spin-bowling depth.

What Did Rajat Patidar Say at the Toss?

RCB’s stand-in captain Rajat Patidar addressed the team’s selection at the toss, confirming that Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaced Rasikh Salam in the playing XI. He did not mention Ngidi’s absence explicitly, but the selection clearly indicated a strategic move.

“We had decided to bowl first, but it will not make much difference. The surface looks hard, and we will try to put up a total and keep them under pressure. The boys did well in the last game. We have to be at our best in every game and will try to do that today. One change – Bhuvi comes in for Rasikh,” Patidar stated at the toss.

Future Chances for Ngidi in RCB’s XI

Despite missing out on today’s match, Ngidi remains a strong contender for RCB’s future games, especially on pitches that offer more pace and bounce. If RCB plays on a surface more suited to fast bowling or if injuries force a change in the lineup, Ngidi could return to the playing XI.

For now, RCB have gone with a balanced squad, focusing on experienced bowlers and an all-round approach. Fans will be eager to see when Ngidi gets his opportunity to shine in IPL 2025.
