Irfan Pathan has raised a question that’s got fans talking. The former all-rounder isn’t happy with a new BCCI rule that says all players must stay in the same hotel during a series. This rule is part of new guidelines aimed at improving team spirit after India’s rough Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign.
Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts. “Even the greatest players stayed in the same hotels as the team. How was this separate hotel thing allowed before?” he asked.
When a fan suggested he was talking about Virat Kohli, Pathan shot back, “Nah, I’m not talking about Virat.” His point was more about fairness and keeping the team united.
The ‘same hotel’ rule is just one of several changes the BCCI has made. Players now have to:
If players break these rules, they could face serious consequences. They could be banned from playing in the IPL. Salary cuts can also be implemented on the players. Exceptions need approval from head coach Gautam Gambhir or chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
The stricter guidelines are already making an impact. Young players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant are ready to play in the Ranji Trophy. But there’s still no clarity on whether senior stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, or KL Rahul will follow suit. Reports have indicated that Virat Kohli has opted out of Delhi’s next Ranji game citing neck sprain.
India’s 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy sparked criticism, especially of senior players. The BCCI’s new rules aim to bring back discipline and rebuild team chemistry. Staying in the same hotel is meant to foster camaraderie.
