Youngster impresses with 5-5

In the ongoing U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, India bundled out Malaysia for just 31 runs in 15 overs. Vaishnavi Sharma who had a memorable debut, claimed five for five in her four overs against Malaysia during the Group A match at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. In the process, she became the second bowler to register a hat-trick in the tournament.  South Africa’s Madison Landsman had achieved the feat for the first time during the 2023 edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with 4-12 against Scotland. Vaishnavi recorded the feat today in the 14th over of the Malaysia innings.

After the match, Vaishnavi Sharma said, “This was a dream debut to get a hat-trick and five-wicket haul. My journey has had its ups and downs.” She added, “I look up to Radha Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. I had visualised how to get wickets here last night.”

India register historic win

While the youngster dismissed Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Dania, Siti Nazwah, Nur Dania Syuhada and Nuriman Hidayah, Aayushi Shukla also took three.

Gongadi Trisha and G Kamalini, the Indian openers chased down the required run inside three overs. Trisha and Kamalini remained unbeaten on 27 and 4, respectively. The match lasted less than 18 overs and India recorded the second fastest chase in the history of the tournament.

India, with this win, have moved to the top of their group with four points. Their excellent Net Run Rate of 9.1 is making it all the difference as Sri Lanka have NRR of 5.5. India will next face Sri Lanka on Thursday, January 23. Both sides with same points will hope to make it three out of three.
