Yograj Singh, former cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, recently lavished praise on MS Dhoni for his incredible game awareness and fearless approach to cricket. Speaking on the show “Unfiltered by Samdish,” Yograj highlighted Dhoni’s unique ability to read pitches and guide bowlers on where to bowl.
“I find Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket and tell bowlers where to bowl,” Yograj said.
Dhoni’s Fearlessness on the Field
Yograj also recalled an iconic moment from Dhoni’s career in Australia. He shared how Dhoni remained unfazed after being hit on the helmet grill by speedster Mitchell Johnson.
“If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill by Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t move a bit. He stood there, and on the next ball, he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” Yograj said.
The former captain’s fearlessness and composure in high-pressure situations have earned him respect across generations. Dhoni is often credited for changing the face of Indian cricket with his calm demeanor and sharp cricketing mind.
A Controversial Relationship with Dhoni
Interestingly, Yograj Singh’s relationship with Dhoni has been a topic of controversy in the past. In an older interview, Yograj had accused Dhoni of ending his son Yuvraj Singh’s career prematurely.
“That man (MS Dhoni) has destroyed the life of my son, who could have played four to five years more,” Yograj had claimed during an interaction with Zee Switch’s YouTube channel.
Despite the controversial remarks, Yograj’s recent praise for Dhoni highlights his admiration for the former Indian captain’s cricketing acumen.
Dhoni’s Return to IPL 2025
While Dhoni has retired from international cricket, fans will see him back in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain will once again lead his team, with the tournament set to begin on March 14.
