Indian cricket fans rejoice! The Men in Blue are set to return to the rainbow nation for a four-match T20I series against South Africa in November this year. This tour will see the completion of the postponed T20I matches originally scheduled for India’s 2021 South Africa tour, which were disrupted due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The 2021 tour saw India play only the Test and ODI series due to the pandemic. South Africa emerged victorious in both formats, winning the Test series 2-1 and the ODI series 3-0. While a CSA release at the time confirmed the postponement of the T20Is, promising to reschedule them “for a more opportune time,” finding a suitable window proved challenging.
Four Matches Across Four Cities in November
This November, the two cricketing giants will finally lock horns in the four-match T20I series. The matches will be played between November 8th and 15th across four South African cities: Durban, Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Centurion, and Johannesburg.
This tour holds significant importance for Cricket South Africa (CSA) as hosting India is a major financial boost. Broadcast revenue from a single T20I is estimated to exceed R150 million (US$8.4 million), a significant windfall considering CSA’s reported loss of R119 million in the last financial year.
Excitement Builds for Highly Anticipated Series
Lawson Naidoo, CSA chairperson, expressed his gratitude towards the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for their continued support. “Any tour by the Indian cricket team to our shores is filled with amazing camaraderie and exciting cricket,” Naidoo said. “I know our fans will be eagerly awaiting this series which will showcase the exceptional talent from both teams.”
This upcoming T20I series promises to be a thrilling spectacle for fans of both nations. With India seeking to avenge their ODI series defeat in 2021 and South Africa looking to maintain their dominance, the four-match encounter is sure to be filled with high-voltage action and cricketing brilliance.
