Delhi Capitals batted first after losing the toss and lost 2 wickets inside the powerplay. Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer didn’t make big contributions. Shikhar Dhawan, playing his first game for the franchise, combined well with Colin Ingram as they added 83 runs for the 3rd wicket. Both departed in the 40s but set up a great platform for a late flourish.
From that point onward, it was all about Rishabh Pant. In the very first IPL game of the season, he rose to his best and slammed a half-century off just 18 balls. He ended up with an unbeaten 78 from just 27 balls with 7 fours and as many sixes. DC finished with a colossal score of 213/6.
In reply, MI went after the bowlers from the beginning. But chasing a big score forced the team to keep the scoring rate high which, in turn, cost them the wickets. Rohit Sharma fell to Ishant Sharma for 14. Suryakumar Yadav and soon after, Quinton de Kock too fell that left the hosts tottering at 46/3 after the powerplay.
Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard added 50 runs for the 4th wicket. But Pollard departed for 21, followed by Hardik for a duck. Krunal Pandya scored a quickfire 32 from 15 balls before getting out to Trent Boult. Yuvraj fought a lone battle as he scored 53 from 35 balls. But he was left with too many to get as MI fell short by 37 runs.

Only one word for Rishabh Pant today. Wow. The sixes were exquisite but the boundary to get to 50 was simply special.

One handed six goes into the second tier. If he had both hands on it that ball would’ve fallen into the Arabian Sea #MIvDC #RishabhPant
