Jacques Kallis shocks fans with a bold prediction of the IPL winner

On Thursday, former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis made an early prediction on the likely winner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 tournament, which is set to kick off on Friday with a match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, the four-time champions. 

Kallis, who has played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, is widely considered one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket history. With his vast knowledge and experience of the game, his prediction is likely to be taken seriously by fans and experts alike. 

First-time winner

Kallis has picked a team that has never won the IPL so far. According to Kallis, Delhi Capitals could win the title in the upcoming IPL 2023 season, and he also predicted that they will face Mumbai Indians in the final. Delhi Capitals, who have never won the IPL title, finished as the runner-up in 2020, losing to Mumbai Indians in the final. Kallis’ prediction is likely to generate a lot of interest and debate among cricket fans and experts. 

In a special pre-show on Star Sports, Kallis said, “It is always difficult to predict which teams are going to be in the IPL playoff because the teams are so evenly matched. But I have got a feeling this year that it is going to be between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, with Delhi Capitals taking the cup.” 

Road not easy

In the previous season of IPL held in 2022, Delhi Capitals ended their campaign in the fifth position on the points table with seven wins and an equal number of losses, amounting to a total of 14 points. Unfortunately, they narrowly missed out on a playoff spot. 

Ahead of the IPL 2023 season, the Capitals will miss the services of their star wicket-keeper batsman and captain Rishabh Pant, who is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident he was involved in December 2022. For the upcoming season, DC has appointed David Warner as the captain, with Axar Patel as his deputy. Jacques Kallis has predicted that Delhi Capitals will be the winners of the upcoming IPL season, and will face Mumbai Indians in the final.
