Jasprit Bumrah Denies Reports of Being Advised Bed Rest

Jasprit Bumrah has hit back at recent reports suggesting he was advised bed rest due to a back injury. The Indian fast bowler took to social media to dismiss the rumours, calling them “fake news” and saying the claims made him laugh.

Bumrah’s Response to Rumors

Earlier in the day, a report from The Times of India stated that Bumrah was experiencing back swelling after returning from Australia. The article suggested he was on bed rest until the swelling subsided. However, Bumrah didn’t hold back when reacting to an aggregator’s post about the report on X (formerly Twitter).

“I know fake news is easy to spread, but this made me laugh . Sources unreliable ,” Bumrah tweeted, putting an end to the speculation.

Injury Woes for Bumrah

Bumrah picked up a back injury during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He struggled to bowl at full pace in the first innings and eventually left the field for scans. The Indian team later confirmed that he wouldn’t bowl in the match’s final innings.

India lost that Test, resulting in a 3-1 series defeat. Bumrah’s absence in the second innings raised questions about the team’s ability to defend the total without their spearhead.

Bumrah Addresses the Setback

At the series presentation, Bumrah spoke candidly about his injury. “It’s a bit frustrating. Sometimes, you’ve got to respect your body. You can’t fight it,” he said.

He added that he was disappointed to miss bowling on what he believed was the most challenging pitch of the series. “Probably missed out on the spiciest wicket, but you’ve got to accept it and move forward,” Bumrah noted.

What’s Next for Bumrah?

Multiple reports about Bumrah’s condition have surfaced since the series ended, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to provide an official statement. Some reports suggest that the board is waiting for detailed medical feedback before making any announcements.

Bumrah is India’s only all-format player at the moment and remains a key figure in the team’s plans. He’s likely to miss the upcoming white-ball series against England as he focuses on regaining full fitness.

With the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to begin in February 2025, Bumrah will be racing against time to be fit for the marquee event. Fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see how his recovery progresses.

For now, though, Bumrah has made one thing clear—don’t believe everything you read online.
