England captain Jos Buttler achieved a significant milestone in the second T20I against India at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Buttler scored 45 runs off 30 balls. He is now the first player to score 600 T20I runs against India.
Before the match, Buttler had 566 runs against India in T20Is. His latest knock pushed his tally to 611 runs, placing him ahead of West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran (592). The England captain now leads the list of most runs scored against India in the shortest format of the game.
Jos Buttler – 611
Nicholas Pooran – 592
Glenn Maxwell – 574
David Miller – 524
Aaron Finch – 500
Buttler was England’s top scorer in the innings, smashing three fours and two massive sixes. His 45-run knock showed glimpses of his brilliance, but he fell short of another half-century. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed him after he skied a delivery to Tilak Varma at mid-wicket.
With this innings, Buttler tied Nicholas Pooran’s record for the most 50+ scores (5) against India in T20Is. He was just five runs away from setting another record outright.
Despite Buttler’s efforts, England’s batting lineup faltered once again. Late cameos from Jamie Smith (22 off 12 balls) and Brydon Carse (31 off 17 balls) helped England post a competitive 165/9 in their 20 overs.
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, entered the match with a 1-0 lead in the series after a dominant seven-wicket win in Kolkata. Suryakumar won the toss in Chennai and elected to field, trusting his bowlers to deliver again.
Injuries forced India to make changes. Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel stepping in for Nitish Kumar Reddy (side strain) and Rinku Singh (back spasm). England also made adjustments. They brought in debutant Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse to replace Jacob Bethell and Gus Atkinson.
