The match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders saw the defending champions failing to chase down 112 runs. While Punjab Kings showed excellency in defending the lowest total in the league so far this year, KKR batting faltered.
The case was not much different with PBKS batting. After the match even the KKR captain Rahane seemingly told PBKS captain Shreyas the same.
Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings could merely set a target of 112 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders. Ajinkya Rahane’s team was expected to chase it down with absolute ease.
However, surprisingly PBKS successfully defended the target and KKR lost the match. Despite the efforts by Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Andre Russell, Yuzvendra Chahal from PBKS shone with 4-wicket haul.
Batters from both teams struggled to score runs and produced a low-scoring thriller in the IPL 2025. After the match Rahane admitted the same while shaking hands with Shreyas Iyer, PBKS captain. “Kya faltu batting kari humne (What a disastrous batting effort from us),” Rahane seemingly told Iyer as the two shook hands after the game.
In the post-match presentation, KKR captain took the entire blame on himself. Rahane’s dismissal was not conclusive.
If Rahane had asked for the review, he could have given not out. Speaking of the same, Rahane told, “As a batter, I thought that I could save the review for later. It shouldn’t happen that I take a review and lose it, then we are only left with one review.”
He added, “But generally, the batsmen in front of you, you think about what they say. The communication wasn’t that clear: ‘Maybe it could be the umpire’s call, maybe it could be hitting.’ That’s why I didn’t take a review. But again, no complaints. Apart from that, we also were pretty bad as a batting unit. And that was the reason we lost today.”
