In an interesting development, the management of the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has expressed interest in roping in VVS Laxman as part of its coaching staff. Laxman, currently serving as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, may soon be transitioning to a new role in the IPL.
According to sources, there is speculation that Laxman may not seek an extension of his tenure at the NCA, which is set to end in September. Although he was BCCI’s first choice to succeed Rahul Dravid as Team India head coach, Laxman declined the offer due to his reluctance to travel extensively with the team. This decision has led to informal talks between Laxman and the LSG management, although nothing concrete has been confirmed yet.
Laxman, who has recently shifted his base from Hyderabad, has been receiving feelers from various franchises for a while. The former India batting coach Vikram Rathour is seen as a potential candidate to succeed Laxman at the NCA. Rathour has been part of the BCCI ecosystem since 2012, initially as a national selector before joining Team India as batting coach.
The potential addition of Laxman to the LSG coaching staff could be a significant move for the franchise, known for its strategic and tactical acumen. Laxman’s vast experience and deep understanding of the game could provide a valuable edge to the team as they prepare for the upcoming IPL season.
