Pakistan Super League set to clash with Indian Premier League in 2025 due to ICC Champions Trophy

In a significant development within the cricketing world, two of the most prominent T20 leagues, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), are poised to collide for the first time in their history. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has put forward a proposal to reschedule the 10th season of the PSL, setting the stage for a potential clash with the IPL.

The proposed alteration stems from the scheduling of the ICC Champions Trophy in February 2025. Typically held from February to March, the PSL faces the prospect of overlapping with the IPL’s April-May timeline due to this international tournament. This move marks a departure from previous years when both leagues made concerted efforts to avoid scheduling conflicts.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer emphasized the need for a well-informed decision-making process, indicating discussions held during a recent meeting with PSL franchise owners. He stated, “As always, we had a very exciting and interesting brainstorming session with the franchise owners on the window for HBL Pakistan Super League 2025.” Naseer highlighted the collaborative effort to consider various factors, including playoff venues and the future trajectory of the PSL brand.

The PCB aims to provide franchise owners with additional data to facilitate informed deliberations ahead of the formal PSL General Council meeting scheduled for the end of May. Naseer expressed optimism about working closely with stakeholders to navigate the complexities of scheduling and ensure the continued success of one of Pakistan’s premier cricketing events.
