Sunrisers Hyderabad has a battery of power hitters. They started the season on a high, scoring 286 in their first match against the Rajasthan Royals. After facing four consecutive since, they have punched back in style. Abhishek Sharma led the attack from the front.

PBKS score 245/6

PBKS batted first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In their innings, they were solid with the bat. There were significant contributions from the top-order. Priyansh Arya, the centurion from the last game, scored 36 off just 13 balls.

Prabhsimran scored 42, while captain Shreyas Iyer scored a scintillating 82 off 36 deliveries. A cameo at the end from Marcus Stoinis meant that PBKS ended the innings strongly. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers. The pacer took 4 wickets for 42 runs.

SRH fight back

In reply to PBKS, the SRH openers came out all guns blazing. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started the inning on a high. Head hit Arshdeep Singh for two boundaries in the first over. Meanwhile, Sharma took down Marco Jansen in the next over. He struck the South African for 4 boundaries in the over.

The two openers gave the start SRH was missing this season. Travis Head scored 66 off 37 deliveries before being dismissed. He hit 9 fours and 3 sixes with a strike rate of 178.38.

The Abhishek Sharma Show

However, the run chase was all about Abhishek Sharma. The left-hander scored a brilliant century to end his string of low scores. Sharma scored 141 runs off just 55 balls. His knock of 141 takes him to the top of the list of highest individual scores in IPL by an Indian. The previous record was held by KL Rahul with his knock of 132 runs in 2020.

Unique celebration

Abhishek Sharma had a unique celebration to bring up his century. The batter brought out a piece of paper and showed it to the dressing room. The celebration reminded people of the ‘Yeh Viv, Talk Nah’ moment from 2012, when West Indies batter Denesh Ramdin showed a paper with that text after scoring a century. While that celebration was meant as a reply to Viv’s criticism of Ramdin, Sharma did it with a message for his fans.

Sharma’s note had the following text: “This one is for ORANGE ARMY”. He dedicated his century to SRH fans and supporters. Looking at Sharma’s celebration, even Shreyas Iyer seemed to be interested in knowing what the note said. He looked at the piece of paper that Sharma held.

SRH win ruthlessly

On the back of Abhishek Sharma’s knock, SRH were able to chase down a massive target of 246 with ease. They won the match by 8 wickets and 9 balls to spare.
