Colin Munro sets new record in PSL 2025, Takes over Rilee Rossouw to have scored most half-centuries by a foreigner

Colin Munro made a record in the first match of PSL 2025 by becoming the foreign batter with the most half-centuries in the league. Munro surpassed Rilee Russouw to attain the title.

Munro scores 13th fifty

Playing the opening game of PSL 2025, Munro brought up his 13th fifty in the league. He scored it against the Lahore Qalandars. His knock of 59* runs off 42 balls was crucial for his team Islamabad United to win the match. They won the match by 8 wickets.

Lahore Qalandars struggle

Lahore Qalandars batted first in the opening match of the season. They lost their openers early in the form of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammed Naeem. Zaman was dismissed for one while Naeem scored 8 runs. Abdullah Shafique steadies the ship with a brilliant knock of 66 runs off only 38 deliveries.

However, that seemed to be the only silver lining for the Lahore Qalandars. Other batters, including Daryl Mitchell, Sam Billings, and Sikandar Raza, failed to leave a mark. The batters made 13, 0, and 23 runs respectively.

Qalandars ended up with a sub-par total of 139. For the Islamabad United, Jason Holder and Shadab Khan were crucial with the ball. Holder picked up 4 wickets, while Shadab scalped 3.

Islamabad United’s chase

In reply, Islamabad United had a rough start, too. They lost opener Andries Gous early. Star batter Colin Munro replaced him at the crease. Munro went on to score 59* off 42 balls. The former Kiwi batter hit 7 fours and 1 six in his inning. He batted with a strike rate of 140.48. He was ably supported by Pakistani cricketer Salman Agha. The batter scored 41* runs off 34 balls. Islamabad won the match by 8 wickets with 14 balls remaining.

Babar Azam tops the list

Munro became the batter with the sixth most number of half-centuries in PSL with 13 fifties. Babar Azam is at the top with 35 half-centuries. Mohammad Rizwan, Zaman, Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik are the other batters ahead of Munro.
