Abhishek Sharma broke batting records on Saturday against the Punjab Kings. The batter scored a mesmerising ton with sixes galore. His score of 141 helped SRH chase down the second-highest target in the history of the IPL.
As Abhishek completed his century in just 40 balls, the entire SRH camp jumped up in joy. Ecstasy was palpable in the SRH dugout. Owner Kavya Maran seemed to be elated by Abhishek’s effort, as she hugged his mother and congratulated her. Abhishek’s parents were present in the stadium to watch their son play. The young batter made his parents proud with his knock.
PBKS batted first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In their innings, they were solid with the bat. There were significant contributions from the top-order. Priyansh Arya, the centurion from the last game, scored 36 off just 13 balls.
Prabhsimran scored 42, while captain Shreyas Iyer scored a scintillating 82 off 36 deliveries. A cameo at the end from Marcus Stoinis meant that PBKS ended the innings strongly. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers. The pacer took 4 wickets for 42 runs.
In reply to PBKS, the SRH openers came out all guns blazing. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started the inning on a high. Head hit Arshdeep Singh for two boundaries in the first over. Meanwhile, Sharma took down Marco Jansen in the next over. He struck the South African for 4 boundaries in the over.
The two openers gave the start SRH was missing this season. Travis Head scored 66 off 37 deliveries before being dismissed. He hit 9 fours and 3 sixes with a strike rate of 178.38.
However, the run chase was all about Abhishek Sharma. The left-hander scored a brilliant century to end his string of low scores. Sharma scored 141 runs off just 55 balls. His knock of 141 takes him to the top of the list of highest individual scores in IPL by an Indian. The previous record was held by KL Rahul with his knock of 132 runs in 2020.
