Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has recently shared insights into his struggles with form and his triumphant return to peak performance in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Season 5. Despite facing a challenging period on the international circuit, Shadab is currently thriving with the Colombo Strikers, showcasing remarkable bowling skills.
A Memorable Debut in LPL Season 5
Shadab’s journey in the LPL has been nothing short of spectacular. In his debut match against the Kandy Falcons, he achieved a hat-trick and has since maintained impressive form, leading the season with 16 wickets. His exceptional performance included his third four-wicket haul of the tournament against the Jaffna Kings at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Overcoming Challenges
Reflecting on his recent struggles, Shadab revealed, “I was struggling for three months. I hadn’t taken a wicket in the last seven international games. I came here, started bowling, and am now always taking wickets. That is the beauty of cricket. You have to enjoy these types of scenarios as well… sometimes you perform, sometimes you don’t. But the process that you follow has to be consistent.”
Adapting to Conditions
Shadab emphasized the importance of adaptability in T20 cricket, noting the variations required for success across different pitch conditions. “The pitch was helping us as it was a bit slow and gripping a bit… But T20 cricket is very hard nowadays, as 200 is easily changeable. As a spinner, you have to have your variations because on flat tracks, if you don’t have variations, you can go for runs. But if you have variation, you can take wickets as well as contain runs. So that is very important, and it is also important that you land it in a good area,” he explained.
Aiming for All-Round Contribution
At 25 years old, Shadab is determined to contribute as an all-rounder for his franchise, the Colombo Strikers. He expressed his desire to excel in all facets of the game: “I am performing for my team, and that is a good sign. I am the main bowler, and if I am taking wickets, that is a positive sign for me and my team. I want to contribute in all three phases. So far, I am contributing in two as a bowler and fielder. Hopefully, I can contribute with the bat too.”
Looking Ahead
Shadab’s resurgence in form is a testament to his dedication and adaptability. As he continues to shine in the LPL, fans and followers of cricket will be keen to see if he can translate this success back to the international stage.
