Bat checks by the umpires have become norms nowadays in IPL. Riyan Parag’s bat was checked twice during the match against Delhi Capitals yesterday.

When the camera panned to the dugout, Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid was not looking amused. The reaction went viral as Dravid gave a cold reaction during the bat checks.

Dravid gives cold stare

Bat checks have become common in IPL 2025. The umpires are quite often checking the width of the bat before the batter enters the ground. The are checking it with a gauge to eradicate the use of oversized bats.

KKR’s Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje failed to pass the bat test already. Yesterday the umpires checked Rajasthan’s Riyan Parag’s bat twice at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Riyan Parag was not okay with the double check. One of the commentators said, “You know what he is saying to the umpire? ‘You have already checked my bat in the dressing room, why are you checking it again?'” The head coach of Rajasthan Royals Rahul Dravid was also giving a very cold reaction. It was clear that Dravid was not pleased with it too. Dravid’s cold reaction went viral in no time.

Vettori explains why it does not make any difference

On Wednesday, Daniel Vettori, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad remarked on the same. He said that it does not make any difference. “No, I don’t think it makes any difference.

The guys get tested regularly. The umpires go through the dressing rooms a lot of the time, so (the) guys know that their bats are compliant, so it’s just a quick one second, and everyone moves on.”

“It’ll reset anyone trying to have a bigger bat, but it’s pretty easy to get your bat through that gauge,” he added.

He further added, “It’s just part of the game, part of the evolution. Everyone seems to enjoy sixes and fours, so I don’t think we’re going to get a reduction in bat size and it doesn’t really worry me.”
