As IPL 2025 unfolds, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the IPL teams and everyone else involved in the competition to stay away from potentially corrupt activities. A businessman from Hyderabad with compromising credentials is apparently trying to trap individuals in the league for corrupt activites.

Links to bookies

The Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) has reasons to believe that the individual involved in corrupt practices has links to punters and bookies. Moreover, he has been involved in such activities before as well.

The individual seems to be trying to befriend people involved in the league. Thus, all the stakeholders have been advised to stay away from any such individual and report any interaction that takes place. The board has asked people to disclose any potential connection with the businessman.

Expensive gifts, jewellery

The businessman allegedly tries to entice people by luring them with expensive gifts, including jewellery. The person comes across as a fan and tries to maintain a harmless image.

Intention to trap families

The person is said to target not only individuals directly involved but also their families. Family members are enticed by offering gifts. Family members of franchise owners, players, coaches, support staff and even commentators are approached.

He is said to have been offering to take them to jewellery stores and high-end hotels posing as a fan. There are also indications that he may have attempted to contact relatives living abroad, often through social media platforms.

BCCI seeks cooperation

Advanced technologies have made the job of the ACSU tough. The unit expressed the same to the teams involved. BCCI has asked everyone to be alert and cooperate. The Board said that they are committed to ensuring corrupt practices are kept away from the game and that the integrity of the sport is not compromised. It remains to be seen how the guidelines are followed by the teams involved.
