Karun Nair’s comeback to the IPL is the talk of the town at the moment. The batter set the stage on fire with his classy 89 in the match against the Mumbai Indians. Here’s how he pestered his coach to include him in the playing 12.
Hemang Badani, the Delhi Capitals coach, revealed ahead of the match against the Rajasthan Royals how Karun Nair persuaded him to be included in the playing 12.
“This lad has not played the IPL in the last three years. He’s only got 9 First-Class hundreds this year. He was itching for a chance. Waiting to get into the park. He has been bothering me ‘When am I going to get a game? Will I get this one?’ Even in the nets, he kept asking Can I have a little more time in the middle?” Badani informed.
In the match against the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Nair exploded. The DC batter did not take much time to get going. He stuck back-to-back boundaries to Trent Boult early on. He hit another boundary in the same over to stamp his authority. He went on to take Deepak Chahar to the cleaners as well.
Karun Nair completely asserted his dominance over the Mumbai bowling attack by taking Bumrah to the stands. He scored 26 runs off 9 balls to Bumrah. It is the second-most runs scored against Bumrah by an Indian player in an IPL match. Only Shikhar Dhawan scored more (27). However, Dhawan took 16 deliveries for it.
Nair hit Bumrah for 3 fours and 2 sixes. The batter showed no sign of fear against the lethal bowling of Bumrah.
“Honestly, I had the confidence that I’ve played [IPL] before, and I know how it’s going to be and it’s nothing different that I’m going to be facing anything new. So, but in my mind, it was just about going out there and giving myself a few balls and just getting used to the speed of the game again and the atmosphere
So I just told myself, ‘give yourself the time, play normal shots and then, you know, improvise when needed. ‘ Fortunately, everything came off, and I’m happy that I batted well,” Nair told the media.
