Cricket is a great equaliser. Karun Nair, who was on top of the world a few days back for his brilliant comeback, saw an unfortunate incident on Wednesday. The batter was run out for a 3-ball duck against the Rajasthan Royals.
Delhi Capitals were batting first against the Rajasthan Royals. Karun Nair came to the crease in the third over when Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed by Jofra Archer. Nair played out the over against the dangerous Archer.
However, on the very first ball of the next over, he found himself stranded out of the crease. Nair was not even on strike. Abhishek Porel was batting against Sandeep Sharma as he got an inside edge on the pull shot. The ball rolled towards the point region, and Porel called for a single.
Nair responded to Porel’s call and was off for the single. However, Porel later sent back the batter as he found he would not be able to complete the run. Nair had already reached the halfway mark, and it was going to be tough for him to return.
He tried to move back to the crease. However, Dhruv Jurel was quick to pounce on the ball and throw it towards the non-striker’s end. Sandeep Sharma grabbed the ball and broke the stumps. On the replays, it was found that Nair was millimetres short of his crease and was dismissed without scoring.
Nair had got the chance to bat in the IPL after three years. He made it count by scoring a brilliant 89 off 40 balls in the last match. The batter is eager to make a mark for himself and ensure a call-up for the national side. However, with the runout, he wasn’t able to continue his purple patch. He was visibly frustrated and angry when he returned to the dressing room. It will be important to see how he reacts to the situation and perform in the next match.
