Abhishek Nayar is relieved of his duties as the Assistant Coach of Indian Cricket Team. Following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to remove several members of the team’s support staff.

Big change in Indian dressing room

Along with Abhishek Nayar, the fielding coach T. Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai have also been relieved from their duties. They have been with the side for three years.

According to a report published on Dainik Jagran, a team masseur has also been sacked reportedly. However, the board is yet to confirm the news. The report also suggested that the BCCI sent a notice saying any staff who has been with the side for more than three years, might be removed.

Nayar came from Kolkata Knight Riders after Gautam Gambhir, former KKR coach was appointed as new coach of Indian cricket team after Rahul Dravid’s tenure completed.

Apart from Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel were also brought in as per Gambhir’s suggestion. The move came despite India’s victorious campaign in the Champions Trophy.

BCCI plans for future

The rest of the team staff will continue their job and fill in for their former colleagues. The assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will reportedly take over fielding responsibilities in place of T. Dilip.

So far, the board has not made any new recruits in place of Nayar and T Dilip. “Nayar, Dilip and Soham have been informed about it last week. The Indian board will not have any new appointee as of now,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.

After India’s batting debacles at home Tests against New Zealand and away in Australia, the board added NCA and India A coach Sitanshu Kotak to the set-up as the batting coach for the white-ball assignments earlier this year. India will head to England for their crucial five-match Test series against England that is scheduled to begin on June 20.

The BCCI is aiming for an overhaul change before that after the BGT setback. The aim is to rest the structure to avoid further red-ball cricket disaster.

However, it is a challenge for the BCCI to find replacements for Nayar and Dilip in time before India’s Test series against England at home.
