Rohit Sharma faces intense backlash from fans after consecutive failures

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 8 runs in the match against Gujarat Titans. Sharma was bowled by Mohammed Siraj after conceding two boundaries.

Second failure for Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma has not started IPL 2025 on a strong note. Sharma was out for a duck in the first match against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk. In the second match against the Gujarat Titans, he started off well by hitting two consecutive boundaries in the first over by Mohammed Siraj. However, Siraj had the last laugh as he dismissed the Indian skipper on the very next delivery.

Trolled by fans

Rohit Sharma has faced intense criticism from fans for some months now. His lack of form has been apparent over the last few months. The Indian skipper dropped himself from the last Test match against Australia earlier this year. However, he had a successful run in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy, where he led India to the title. However, fans are back to taking digs at him.

Some online accounts have already started asking Sharma to retire from IPL. One X (formerly Twitter) user said that Sharma should retire before he is benched by the Mumbai Indians too. Another fan criticised the Indian captain for being inconsiderate to Siraj.

“Siraj not effective”

Sharma has faced even more criticism from fans for a statement he made about Mohammed Siraj. Talking about Siraj’s exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad, Sharma had said, “Siraj’s effectiveness comes down a little bit if he’s not going to take the new ball.”

Fans have taken a special dig at him for this, as Siraj bowled Sharma with a jaffa. Siraj’s fans claim that he has the skills to challenge any batsman.

Sharma’s lack of form

Rohit Sharma has suffered from a lack of form for some time now. His mediocre returns over the last few months have been a cause for concern for the Indian team and the fans. His IPL performance has been worse over the years, even when he was performing well for the national side. Sharma has crossed the 500-run mark in a season only once, back in 2013.
