After a lot of limited over cricket, Team India is now moving their way to the longest format. In the next month, they will play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Before that, several players will be seen in the prestigious Buchi Babu tournament. Shreyas Iyer will briefly return to domestic cricket, joining Mumbai for one four-day match in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament. Mumbai Cricket Association chief Sanjay Patil noted Iyer’s eagerness for red-ball cricket.
Team India is all set to be back in the longest format. In the next month, the team will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh on home soil. After that, some other Test series are lined up for them. The players are also gearing up for that long schedule. Before that, some of the big names will be seen participating in the Buchi Babu Tournament this month.
India’s talented middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will make his domestic return after a while. He is all set to participate in the Buchi Babu Tournament for his home team Mumbai. He will join T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav in Mumbai’s lineup for their second-round match against Jammu & Kashmir. The game will take place in Coimbatore from August 27 to 30.
Shreyas Iyer will make a long-awaited return to red-ball cricket. As he is all set to come back with Mumbai, Mumbai Cricket Association chief Sanjay Patil noted that the batter is eager to play in the longest format of the game.
He said, “Shreyas showed keen interest in playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament. He is eager to play red-ball cricket. Though Shreyas and Surya will be playing only one match, it will be a strong message to other state teams that Test players are also keen to play for Mumbai.”
After a long wait, Shreyas Iyer made his Test debut for India in November 2021 in Kanpur. In his debut match, he shined bright scoring a century in the first innings and a half-century in the second one. He has accumulated 811 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 36.86, including one century and five half-centuries.
After playing two Test matches against England earlier this year, he was snubbed from the rest three Tests of that series. Iyer was excluded from BCCI central contracts earlier this month due to fitness issues, which kept him out of the Test team.
He later played a crucial role in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy win and led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title. He recently returned to India’s white-ball squad in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. This tournament will help him push for a Test squad return.
