Tamim Iqbal, who recently suffered a heart attack, took to Facebook to express his gratitude to fans for their love. He thanked the medical experts for saving his life after being discharged from the hospital.
Posting on Facebook, Tamim Iqbal said that his supporters have always given him love and he is grateful for it. “By all your prayers, I am at home now. In these four days, I have discovered my surroundings as I found a new life.
All that realisation has only love and gratitude. I have got your love throughout my career. But now I have felt it even more intensely. I am really overwhelmed,” Tamim posted on Facebook.
The former Bangladesh captain retired from international cricket in January this year. He continues to play domestic cricket. In fact he suffered the heart attack right before a match. The left-hander was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club.
However, he felt uncomfortable after the toss. He was then taken to the KPJ Specialised Hospotal and Nursing, which is near the ground in Savar. After that, he was sent to a hospital in Dhaka by a helicopter.
Tamim Iqbal’s condition continued to worsen, and he collapsed. His physio performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), followed by the hospital’s shock therapy, to resuscitate him. Once he was back to his senses, he was operated on by the cardiologist. A ring was put in one of his arteries.
Tamim also took the opportunity to thank the medical experts and the support staff for saving his life. “How to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai, I don’t really know. I learned later, the specialist doctors said that I wouldn’t have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given CPR properly at that time.
The road to full recovery is still long. Keep me and my family in your prayers. May everyone’s life be beautiful and peaceful. Love for everyone,” he wrote.
For a country not known to produce many star batsmen, Tamim Iqbal has proven people wrong. For a long time, he maintained a solid performance across formats. He was Bangladesh’s best batter and even captained the national side. He retired from international cricket earlier this year in January.
He, however, continues to play domestic cricket as he led the Fortune Barishal franchise to their second BPL title. The left-hander scored over 5 thousand runs in Test cricket. In limited-overs cricket too, he scored over 10 thousand runs, making him one of Bangladesh’s best-ever cricketers.
